CONTACT ARTIST

A former teacher from Sudbury, Marian retired to Manitoulin Island where she was able to follow a lifelong love of art. She is influenced by the Impressionists who worked to capture the light and atmosphere of a scene. Colour is an important element in her work.

She likes to paint and draw, usually with fellow artists, on location around the Island and the La Cloche area. Most of her paintings begin en plein air to be completed in the studio with her unique view of things. Watercolour is her preferred medium, and water has often featured in her compositions along with trees.

As a young person, she studied at the Banff School of Fine Arts for one summer. A strong basis in drawing was emphasized there. Visits to Provence in the south of France enabled her to experience the views which have fascinated so many of the painters who lead the way to modern art.

Marian was instrumental in establishing regular art displays at the NEMi Public Library. A member of the Manitoulin Fine Arts Association, and the Sudbury Art Club, her work has been shown at the Little Current Library, the Sheguiandah Museum, and many past La Cloche art exhibits.
