CONTACT ARTIST

Ruth Heiser was born in England but travelled to Canada as a child. She now resides on Manitoulin Island with her family, who are also artists.

Ruth started her artistic career with the Ojibwe Cultural Foundation in M'Chigeeng where she was commissioned to do work for the Foundation such as a beaded ceremonial fan for an exhibit entitled "From Our Hands", and a beaded eagle feather that was presented to Pope John Paul 11 during the Papal visit to Canada in 1980.

O.C.F. also employed Ruth to teach different workshops in several communities on Manitoulin and arranged for her to give a beadwork demonstration during a te day workshop at the Museum of Mankind in London England.

As a teacher at Wasse Abin Pontiac school in Wikwemikong, Ruth also developed and taught comprehensive art lessons for students in grades 5 to 8 as part of her teaching career.

Today, Ruth has retired from teaching and runs her own studio, "Raven's Roost On Sheguiandah Bay".

Her current works include hand crafted jewelry, felt work, watercolor and oil painting, spinning, weaving, knitting and crocheting.
