Ivan Wheale - An Artist's Journey @ the Art Gallery of Sudbury Jan. 9 -Feb. 18

Come to the Art Gallery of Sudbury to experience an artistic journey traveling through 50 years of creativity with the celebrated, renowned and well-known artist Ivan Wheale.

'Ivan Wheale - An Artist's Journey' is an exhibition of drawings and paintings collected from private and public collections throughout Ontario. This unique exhibit is an intimate look at some of the most definitive works of Ivan Wheale. It is a comprehensive exhibition, with catalogue, covering his entire artistic career and the first time many of the works have been on public display and shown together.

Born in Sunderland, England in 1934, Ivan and Jean Wheale settled in Sudbury in 1957 where they lived until 1975 before moving to Manitoulin Island. Wheale has received many awards and accolades throughout his artistic career, most notably an Honorary Degree from Laurentian University and the Rotary International Paul Harris Award. He has had 86 solo exhibitions including three major touring exhibits circulating through Ontario. His works hang in 42 public and corporate collections including; The Queen's Collection, Windsor Castle, England; The Dean's Collection, Windsor Castle, England; the Government of Ontario and the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa.
Wheale has judged, and served on juries for numerous exhibitions, and is a founding member of the Grismby Public Art Gallery, the La Cloche Art Show and the Willisville Mountain Project. Ivan Wheale is represented by The Perivale Gallery on Manitoulin Island, The Odon Wagner Gallery in Toronto and by Artist's on Elgin in Sudbury.

An Artist's Journey opens at the Art Gallery of Sudbury on Saturday, January 9 and closes Thursday, February 18. An Opening Reception and artist talk will be held Saturday, January 16 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The gallery is located at 251 John St. and is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m. Visit us online at www.artsudbury.org or call 675-4871.
